School Resource Officer

About the Officer

In September 2008, the Police Departments of Middleton, Topsfield, and Boxford, along with the Masconomet Regional School District, created a memorandum of understanding. Each Police Department will provide all compensation and benefits to fund a school resource officer.

This endeavor is obviously beneficial in reducing crime and opening the lines of communication at the regional school. It is my hope that the officers will establish a bond with the students and a relationship that carries outside the school district. We have found that students feel comfortable speaking with law enforcement officers about smaller issues before they become full blown crises.

Officer Samantha Cila currently serves as our School Resource Officer (SRO) and D.A.R.E. officer. SRO Cila is a Middleton resident and has been a Middleton Police Officer since August 2022. SRO Cila completed all the required SRO certifications through the MPTC and the D.A.R.E. training and certification course.  Prior to joining the Middleton Police Department, SRO Cila completed the Massachusetts State Police Academy’s 84th RTT and served as a Massachusetts State Trooper for three years. SRO Cila holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Endicott College and has attended the School Resource Officers’ annual conference. SRO Cila continues to improve the professionalism of these important position in the Middleton Police Department.

Goals & Objectives

The goals and objectives of the school resource program are to assist the Masconomet Regional School District in providing a safe learning environment and to improve relationships between law enforcement officers and today's youth. The program also attempts to promote a better understanding of the law enforcement officers' role in society while educating students, parents, and school personnel to build a better community and to provide a role model in the educational system.
