All questions regarding building code should be directed to the Building Commissioner.

Picking up of permits and dropping off of documents happen using the drop box outside the office door.

The Building Inspector is responsible for the review and approval of plans and the issuance of building permits under the State Building Code. He is also responsible for the issuance of demolition permits, certificates of occupancy, certificates of inspection and responding to complaints concerning the safety of structures. The Building Inspector is also the Zoning Enforcement Officer for the Town of Middleton. It is his job to enforce the regulations of the Middleton Zoning By-Law. Additionally, the administrative staff for Planning and the Zoning Board of Appeals are in the office and will help you with any procedural or informational questions you may have.

The Wiring (Electrical) Inspector is responsible for the inspection and approval of wiring and fixture installations for compliance with Massachusetts Electrical Code. He is also responsible for investigating complaints concerning the adequacy and safety of wiring.

The Plumbing and Gas Inspector is responsible for the inspection and approval of new piping systems and alterations of existing systems for compliance with the provisions of Massachusetts Plumbing and Gas Codes. He is also responsible for investigating complaints concerning the safety of gas and plumbing installations.

Permits

Middleton requires permits for most types of work so please check with us before you start a project. Complete and accurate building permit applications are processed quickly.

The Code requires you to have your permit prior to the start of any work. Please follow this regulation as there are severe penalties for violations of the State Building Code. All Building Code inquiries should be directed to the Building Commissioner.
