Planning Board – Alternate Members

The Middleton Board of Selectmen and Planning Board are looking for two individuals to serve as Alternate Planning Board members with a term through June 30, 2020. Alternate members may be designated by the Chairperson of the Planning Board to sit on the Planning Board to vote and act on all matters in the event of a board member’s absence, inability to act, conflict of interest or vacancy on the Board. Alternate members serve one year terms and are subject to reappointment annually by the Board of Selectmen and Planning Board.

The primary responsibilities of the Planning Board include reviewing residential subdivision plans, approval not required plans, and applications for site plan approval submitted to the Zoning Board of Appeals. The Planning Board is also the Special Permit granting authority for Flexible Residential and Multi-family developments. In addition, the Planning Board makes recommendations on proposed Zoning bylaw amendments to Town Meeting voters.

Planning Board members may come from a broad range of professional backgrounds and do not need any particular degree but must be open-minded, willing to learn, capable of understanding Middleton Zoning Bylaws and become familiar with Planning Board procedures. Planning Board members play a critical role in ensuring development within Middleton is thoughtfully conceived and consistent with local and state law.

The Planning Board typically meets monthly and will occasionally conduct site visits to development sites.

Interested candidates should submit a resume and letter of interest by September 6th to:

Mr. Timothy Houten, Chairperson
Middleton Board of Selectmen
48 South Main Street
