The Middleton Board of Health has requested that the Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control District conduct barrier spraying at Howe-Manning School and Fuller Elementary School and the Town Athletic Fields (Rubchinuk Park on East Street, Emily Maher Park on Natsue Way, and Henry Tragert Common behind Town Hall) on Thursday, September 26th, 2019 between 6:45 p.m. to Midnight, pending proper weather conditions. Barrier spraying is a form of adulticiding (An adulticide is a type of insecticide used to kill adult mosquitoes that spread viruses like West Nile or EEE).
The Town of Middleton was elevated to a Moderate Risk Level because of a confirmed Eastern Equine Encephalitis case in Essex County and an abutting town being raised to High Risk Level.. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health makes risk determinations based on the information that is available at the time. This Risk Level increases awareness and the continued necessity of using of protective measures when outside, particularly from dusk to dawn.
